Growing God's Way
Hannah Wangui Kingori is an eighth grade student in Kagoto Primary school in Kenya. When Christian Character Building (CCB) began in Kagoto, she was very disconnected. Her life did not lend itself to being easy, and the struggles she faced at home weighed heavily on her.
Finally approaching the pastor one day she voiced her concerns. “I am born in a family of four children and I am the only girl. I feel so discouraged because my parents are poor and cannot meet our basic needs. When I think about them I cannot understand anything in the classroom and I don’t see the need to go to church.” She was in tears.
The pastor reminded her of the lesson that had been taught on creativity – the ability to create, be inventive or imaginative. He reminded her how she could apply that trait in her own life. Slowly she began to understand and visualize how she could change her situation. She became excited.
Hannah took that lesson on creativity and invented a plan for her mother to start selling green vegetables. Her mother took this advice and now sells kale, cabbage, onions and tomatoes. She enjoys her new business and is proud that it was the brain child of her daughter. As a parent, she is now content in the fact that she can feed her family and provide for some of their basic needs.
Hannah continues to grow and heal psychologically. Today, she is one of the best students in her class and at church. She loves Sunday school camps, seminars and never misses a church service. Seeing her idea come into fruition has made Hannah more dedicated to her school work because she believes she can achieve anything.
